Manual Lymphatic Drainage Lausanne
Water has memory and carries within it our thoughts and prayers. As you yourself are water, no matter where you are, your prayers will be carried to the rest of the world.
– Masaru Emoto
Unlike blood circulation, which depends on the heart as a pump, lymph flow relies mainly on muscle movement to circulate. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is therefore particularly valuable given our predominantly sedentary lifestyles.
Drainage was originally best known and practised by beauticians for its tissue-toning benefits, mobilisation of adipose tissue and scar reduction. Today, it is increasingly used following surgical procedures, particularly after breast cancer surgery where the arm(s) may develop lymphoedema.

The discreet lymph
Present in every corner of our body, lymph is a fluid that is just as important as blood, yet much less well known. It transports toxins and waste products from the body to their elimination pathways, as well as nutrients and immune cells that enable the regeneration and protection of our tissues.
When it flows freely, it keeps every cell in perfect health. So when an injury occurs and oedema (accumulation of lymph) forms, getting it moving again is essential for optimal recovery.
One movement, one wave
The touch of MLD is very gentle, slow and repetitive, almost making us feel as if we were taking a nap by the sea. Rocked by the waves, our water will naturally start moving again and, with it, move all the nutrients our body needs.
Thus, our tissues are revitalised, firmed and, over the course of the sessions, regain their youth and health.
Cleansing & Detox
This renewed movement will also help eliminate toxins that may have accumulated in certain areas of our bodies.
This will be particularly noticeable in people suffering from water retention or lymphoedema, but everyone can greatly benefit from such cleansing.
Isn’t our mission more enjoyable after a good spring clean? Our body is our temple, so let’s take care of it…
Lymphatic Drainage
At the practice, I perform manual lymphatic drainage inspired by the Vodder method, internationally recognised for its effectiveness. This gentle and precise technique stimulates lymphatic circulation and supports the body’s natural processes of detoxification and regeneration.
Whether you come for post-operative oedema, water retention, heavy legs or simply for deep relaxation, each session is tailored to your specific needs. As an ASCA, RME and LymphoSuisse-approved therapist, I accompany you with a professional and caring approach.
An approach inspired by the Vodder method
My approach to manual lymphatic drainage is inspired by the method developed in the 1930s by Dr Emil Vodder, an international reference in lymphatic drainage. This technique is based on gentle, slow, rhythmic circular movements that follow the natural path of lymph through the body.
This approach respects the physiology of the lymphatic system and achieves a deep effect without ever forcing or causing discomfort. The touch is so delicate that it naturally induces a state of deep relaxation, comparable to a meditation guided by the hands.
Who is lymphatic drainage for?
Manual lymphatic drainage is suitable for a wide audience and can be beneficial in many situations:
- Post-operative: Reduction of oedema after surgery, especially following breast cancer (arm lymphoedema)
- Water retention: Heavy legs, swollen ankles, a general feeling of bloating
- Detoxification: Support for a detox programme, seasonal change, chronic fatigue
- Healing: Accelerating tissue recovery and reducing scar tissue
- Well-being: Deep relaxation, improved sleep, immune system strengthening
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is lymphatic drainage reimbursed by supplementary insurance?
My manual lymphatic drainage sessions are recognised by ASCA and RME. Many Swiss supplementary insurers cover natural therapy consultations. I recommend checking directly with your supplementary insurer for your reimbursement conditions. I provide a detailed invoice after each session that you can submit to your insurer.
2. What is the difference between aesthetic and therapeutic drainage?
Therapeutic lymphatic drainage, as I practise it, rigorously follows the path of the lymphatic system and takes a holistic approach to the body. It is performed by a trained and certified therapist and can be used in a health context (post-operative, lymphoedema, detoxification). Aesthetic drainage is often more superficial and primarily focused on cosmetic concerns.
3. How many sessions are needed?
It depends on your situation and goals. For post-operative oedema or lymphoedema, a regular course of several closely spaced sessions may be recommended. For a well-being or detox goal, a monthly or seasonal session may be sufficient. We will establish a plan together suited to your needs at the first consultation.
4. Are there contraindications to lymphatic drainage?
Yes, lymphatic drainage is contraindicated in cases of acute infection, recent vaccination (less than 10 days), recent thrombosis, decompensated heart failure, untreated hyperthyroidism or active cancer (unless medically advised). We discuss your medical history at the first session to ensure your safety.
